I don't see many people posting here that they're selling their car, why is that? This seems like a good place to, and I know there have to be a lot of us in the process of either selling or buying a car. Is it frowned upon to post car listings?

I've always wondered this too, but thought there may be a seperate blog for it? I mean it's not like we can pull the wool over an Oppo's eyes, we'd soon get shouted at.

I've got an E28 that I really should be selling, I've considered listing it here numerous times, for both exposure and peace of mind knowing it'd be viewed by like-minded enthusiasts.

I'd guess it's probably frowned upon, but I too would like to hear more about this.

I just that a lot of us would feel bad selling to a fellow opponaut for profit. Most of us can tell what it would be worth, so you might as well go somewhere else to get more money.

I once posted a car a friend had for sale and I had a guy jump down my throat. That could be why.

I think a casual mention of the fact that your beloved car is for sale would not be frowned upon. Flip side is some people will try to take advantage of the audience and post stuff for sale all the time. Besides, CL and Kajiijii e.g. are probably better at reaching a much broader audience. And most of us Oppos are broke anyway.

Oppo's not really meant to be Craigslist or BringATrailer.

If it's something you found on CL, it's one thing. But advertising your own stuff kinda goes against the spirit of this board.

Occassionally you'll see cars list for sale on here. I'm fine with that, but don't expect to get top $$$$$ if you're listing here. Usually there is some type of Oppo discount and or bonus. For example the CTS-V wagon that was listed on here a while ago came with free jalopnik film festival passes.

If you want to throw it up go ahead, but make sure A) you admit to it being yours, and B) put a price that is fair to the buyer up.

If it's a shit ad, you'll likely get flack.

I've been torn about this as well. I'm looking to sell my B6 and would love it to go to someone that actually appreciates cars, but I suppose it's been to a forum rather than a listing frenzy, which it could easily turn in to. Would love to see fellow Opponauts' vehicles for sale, but I would hate to see it turn into a smorgasbord of random for sale ads.

We don't want to turn Oppo into a classifieds section. I've posted one ad on here, but I was also looking for pointers on how to improve it and the car was actually something special (Corvette), not just some regular ol' econobox that I no longer needed. I didn't get jumped on over the ad.

But yeah, don't go posting just regular boxes for sale. If you've got something unique or interesting that you think Oppo might actually be intrigued by, though, I won't yell at you.

im not opposed to seeing them if it has merit on its own, but not if its just using oppo as another regular sales avenue. As a rule of thumb, oppo is not a marketplace, only under circumstances of rareity and/or extreme interest. Selling some really cool art that is car themed. Cool, as long as it doesnt become a regular thing. Selling a 96 pathfinder se just because? Leave it to the local channels.
